1905 farmhouse razed for apartments

PHOENIX, Ore. (AP) — A farmhouse built in 1905 has been demolished in the town of Phoenix south of Medford.

The farmhouse demolished Wednesday was among the homes built by the pioneer Furry family. Patriarch Fred Furry traveled the Oregon Trail as an infant and settled in Phoenix in 1860.

The Mail Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1PGGXqj) that city officials considered ways to save the faded green and white farmhouse with a wrap-around porch and big windows.

However, the cost of $400,000 to $735,000 to relocate and rehabilitate the house caused officials to abandon the idea.

The house was demolished to make way for an apartment complex.
