New Seasons Market has set a May 9 opening date for its store at 951 N.W. Ballard Way.

Abbott Construction is working on final details for the 25,000-square-foot store, the second Seattle location for the Portland-based New Seasons chain. The first opened in 2016 on Mercer Island.

“We've partnered with local nonprofits, sourced products from local vendors and have hired staff from local neighborhoods,” said Kerri Hunsley, Ballard store manager, in a news release. “We are passionate about bringing together good people and good food, and we hope to be a part of the Ballard community for many years to come.”

The Ballard store will have a meat and seafood department, produce and flowers. Seasonal dishes will be prepared by chefs in the deli, and there will be a wok and ramen bar, and a burrito bar.

New Seasons also will roll out meal kits at the Ballard store made from recipes developed by chef Matt Lightner.

Artist Jonathan Wakuda Fisher of Wakuda Studiofor was commissioned to paint a mural on the store's western wall. The painting depicts a run of gigantic salmon, and their silhouettes are filled with Northwest imagery and text.

LRS Architects is the store designer.

New Seasons started in 2000 in Portland, and has expanded to 20 stores in Washington, Oregon and California. It also has four New Leaf Community Markets in Northern California.
