Kidder Mathews opens in San Diego

Read

Kidder Mathews has a new San Diego office, with three senior brokers and a managing partner. Mark Read is managing partner. He has more than 30 years of experience, including as a senior managing director at CBRE and an executive managing director at Voit Real Estate Services in Southern California. Ron King, Joe McDermott and Robert Willingham are senior brokers. King is a former senior director with Cushman & Wakefield who specializes in industrial, R&D and land. McDermott has done more than 1,750 transactions over 25 years, valued at more than $350 million. Willingham was a former director with Cushman & Wakefield specializing in industrial and office in San Diego's north county.

Hinshaw and Coughlin join SHA

Seattle Housing Authority hired Mark Hinshaw to work on urban design for Yesler Terrace. Hinshaw was a principal urban designer for Bellevue and director of urban design for LMN Architects. Kerry Coughlin will be communications director. Coughlin was a director of the Marine Stewardship Council, an organization focused on the global seafood industry. Coughlin also led communications for Governor Chris Gregoire, The Seattle Times and YWCA.

CCIM hires new CEO

The Certified Commercial Investment Member Institute in Chicago named Walter S. Clements executive vice president and chief executive officer after a year-long search. Clements has owned and managed real estate companies in Michigan and Kansas. CCIM said 10,000 people have earned the designation in 32 countries.

Redfin expands in Florida

Redfin has expanded its home-buying and selling business to southwest Florida cities such as Fort Myers and Naples. Tara Olson will lead Redfin's push into the region. Olson worked in the insurance industry, and invests in real estate. Redfin calls itself a “customer-first real estate brokerage” that emphasizes online and mobile tools.

Puyallup firm joins Berkshire

Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices added Puyallup-based Prudential Contact Corp. Realtors to its network. The brokerage was founded in 1982, and will now be known as Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Northwest Real Estate. Berkshire Hathaway now has eight offices and 375 agents in King, Pierce and Snohomish counties. Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices is a subsidiary of Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway. It was founded in September 2013 and has 34,548 agents and 1,075 offices in 47 states.

New NAIOP leaders, new events

The Washington chapter of NAIOP named Peggi Lewis Fu executive director and Tara Young membership engagement manager. Lewis Fu will oversee day-to-day operations, and Young will lead the push to recruit and retain members. NAIOP also has two events scheduled this month. A breakfast meeting Jan. 21 at Four Seasons Seattle on “social urbanism” will look at how investments in infrastructure help improve health and safety. The 11th annual South Sound Economic Forecast is Jan. 22 at 11:30 a.m. at Greater Tacoma Convention & Trade Center. Information on both events is at http://www.naiopwa.org.

ULI waterfront brainstorm session

Urban Land Institute Northwest's Young Leaders Group is holding a workshop on density at 4:30 p.m. Jan. 21 at Friends of Waterfront Seattle's office at 1400 Western Ave. The goal is to recommend zoning, planning, legal and design alternatives that will encourage density and satisfy diverse stakeholders.
