California-based Hughes Marino is opening a Seattle office in Russell Investments Center. The firm said it has leased 7,300 square feet on the 25th floor. In a statement, CEO Jason Hughes said, “We are thrilled to be growing our ecosystem into the Pacific Northwest. The commercial and entrepreneurial spirit of this region is at the core of its rapid growth and economic success. Our leadership team understands the importance of bringing the industry's best portfolio of service offerings to businesses seeking tenant and buyer representation.” The firm's website lists Jason and Shay Hughes as handling tenant representation in Seattle. The firm also has offices in San Diego, Orange County, Los Angeles, the Inland Empire region, San Francisco and Silicon Valley.
The Appraisal Institute named Todd Henderson of CBRE the “Volunteer of Distinction” for our region in June. Henderson is the director of CBRE's valuation and advisory services team. In addition to serving on two AI boards, he volunteers at church and youth soccer.
NAIOP is holding a June 21 breakfast presentation on the theme of “It's All About the Experience,” with architects Ryan Mullenix of NBBJ, Michael Lee of CallisonRTKL and Brian Runberg of Runberg Architecture Group. They will talk about how demographic changes, tech innovation and a focus on experiences over things are affecting housing, retail and office space design. The event starts at 7 a.m. in the Four Seasons at 99 Union St. Also on the NAIOP calendar is the annual Night of the Stars gala, which is set for Nov. 3 at Hyatt Regency Bellevue. Coldwell Banker Bain announced its new luxury brand called Global Luxury. The company said, “The new Global Luxury brand utilizes sleek, modern marketing materials, breathtaking visuals, first-in-class signage and an improved web presence and reach to deliver unparalleled levels of sophistication and success to its clients.” CEO Bill Riss cited a recent National Association of Realtors study that international buyers are spending $100 billion per year in the U.S. He said, “Coldwell Banker Bain Global Luxury will connect to 750,000 luxury agents across multiple international brands and syndicate listings globally to real estate portals around the world.”

Grand opening of the 92-unit SAMM Apartments has been set for August, according to developer SeaLevel Properties. The six-story building is at 22845 S.E. First Place, near Sammamish Town Center. SeaLevel says it's the first new apartment building in that area in over 15 years. Bright Horizons Family Solutions, a daycare center, will open this fall in a 15,000-square-foot space. Apartments range from studios to two-bedrooms, and there will be a gym, dog-wash area, bicycle storage, and roof deck barbeque grill and fireplace. Rents weren't announced. SeaLevel's John Shaw said the city of Sammamish's vision for the Town Center is starting to take shape. After retiring from JPMorgan Chase Bank, Chuck Weinstock has been elected to the board of Bridge Housing, a San Francisco-based nonprofit that has developed more than 17,000 units in California and the Northwest. Weinstock was executive director of Capitol Hill Housing for almost two decades, and also worked at Common Ground and Fremont Public Association. Bridge CEO Cynthia A. Parker said, “Chuck is a legend in the industry, and we are delighted to welcome him to our board.”
SECO Development and Jones Lang LaSalle said that JLL will handle leasing for office space at Southport on Lake Washington. The 17-acre mixed-use development in Renton will have 2.4 million square feet when it is completed in 2019. There will be 700,000 square feet of office space, 383 apartments, a 347-room Hyatt Regency, as well as restaurants and retail space. JLL's team is Cleita Harvey, JJ Shephard, Riley Shephard and Tim Jones.
Kidder Mathews hired John Booth on the retail leasing and investment sales team. His expertise is supermarkets and large-format retail. He was with Wallace Properties, where his past clients included Tractor Supply, Cash & Carry and Big Lots.
Seattle-based Central Co-op has found a new location for its Tacoma grocery: 4502 N. Pearl St., which is currently home to Bargain World. The co-op opened a Tacoma store in 2011, but it closed last year. The new site is in West End, close to the ferry landing and Point Defiance Park. The store will have a large deli and a community room. The opening day hasn't been set, but the co-op plans to hire 35 people for the store. Central Co-op's flagship store is at 16th and Madison on Capitol Hill, where it's two years into a 20-year lease. The grocer recently abandoned plans for a store at Capitol Hill Station. It has over 14,500 active members.
