NEW JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL NO. 6, NORTHSHORE SCHOOL DISTRICT

Project description: The 104,000 square foot Northshore Junior High School No. 6 is steel frame and concrete masonry unit construction with steel joist roof framing and a heat welded PVC membrane roof. Exterior materials are acrylic surfaced plaster, exposed CMU and preformed metal siding. Spaces include classrooms, a kitchen, gymnasium, multi-purpose area and a commons. The school will have new football, softball, baseball and soccer fields. To maintain as much of the site as possible in a natural state, the one-story 900-student building was located at the high point of the site with adjacent fields and parking. Site restrictions included a through-access street mandated by the county and significant wetland mitigation. The instruction areas are organized into team teaching units with a science, math, language and social studies classroom clustered together. An inter-disiplinary space is centered in each cluster. Access is maintained to each classroom without going through this central space utilizing pathways of interior and exterior circulation.
