MEADOWDALE HIGH SCHOOL MODERNIZATION
Project description: Includes razing 155,000 square feet of the old school and building a 180,000-square-foot addition to go with the remaining 13,000 square feet, which would be renovated. New construction will be built of CMU veneer and metal siding topped by an insulated metal deck with built-up and metal roofing.
The 1,600-student school will be organized into three zones -- community/arts, academic/resource and recreational/fitness. Located in the arts zone will be dramatic arts, the Black Box Theatre, musical arts and visual arts. This part of the school will feature a landscaped civic plaza that will lead into a great hall outfitted with a lobby and cafe. Seven flexible learning clusters will be included in the academic zone to allow for a variety of teaching styles. The seventh cluster will be a stand-alone building to allow for community use while not encroaching on the other six.
