C-17 Corrosion Facility, McChord Air Force Base

C-17 Corrosion Facility

C-17 Corrosion Facility

Project description: Construct a one-story, 46,823-square-foot bay hangar with reinforced concrete foundations and floor slab. The structure will be steel frame with metal panel siding and roof. This facility will provide space for C-17 aircraft preventative maintenance. New construction is required to safely enclose the larger C-17 tail height clearance. The C-17 has a 60-day scheduled wash requirement. Washing aircraft and/or performing corrosion control maintenance in an enclosed facility is necessary for climatic temperature control, hot water needs and for controlling pollutants. The facility must have sufficient lighting, heating, ventilation and fire protection equipment to ensure a properly outfitted and safe facility to perform the maintenance and servicing of the C-17 aircraft.
