Woodmont Library expansion

Agency/owner: King County Library System
General contractor: Lease Crutcher Lewis

The design of the Woodmont Library expansion was based on two premises developed with the owner and community: the expanded building should function as an integrated whole and it should be visible and welcoming from Pacific Highway South.

The addition creates a large and flexible open space for expanded collections and services. The new roof sits lightly above the edge of the existing structure and the faceted ceiling slopes up at the perimeter to allow daylight deep into the space. A lightweight structural frame was inserted where a massive brick corner was removed from the old building.
