The West End is a two-building, two-story commercial/hotel complex. At 8,000 square feet each, the buildings reportedly are the largest structures designed and built in the Dundee area of the Willamette Valley. They were initially designed for commercial use, but the upper floors of both wood-frame structures were redesigned and remodeled into a 20-room boutique hotel.

Western Partitions’ scope of work was quite involved, with multiple exterior finishes, including stucco, brick and stone. Western installed liquid-applied air barrier systems over the entire sheathing of both buildings. The system is formulated to prevent the stucco from bonding, allowing incidental moisture to drain behind the stucco.

Pre-formed foam shapes were applied to the plaster base, meshed to the surface and then finished to form arches and trims at the windows and gables. Western finished the chimneys and window dormers in its warehouse, then transported them to the site and mounted them to the roofs.

The final stucco system integrated seamlessly to the buildings’ brick and stone work.

Judge’s comment: “This project incorporated an exterior stone and stucco cladding along with ornamental EPS shapes. The exterior finish surfaces were effective in lending old-world charm to a new, prominent building in Oregon’s wine country.”
