Public Cast-in-place winner
Project Name:
Winner of the public cast-in-place building award, the Fisheries Building, opened in August 1999 to house activities of the School of Fisheries. The 125,000-square-foot building contains state-of-the-art research facilities along with classrooms, an auditorium and academic office space. Cast-in-place conventionally reinforced concrete makes up the primary structural framing, such as columns, beams, walls, two-way slabs, foundations, stairs and ramps. Concrete elements are exposed throughout the building. Concrete was chosen for this structure for its durability, cost efficiency, constructability, aesthetics and compatibility with the environment. With seismic forces in mind, the building is made to resist lateral forces with concrete moment frames.
