The House on the Hill won the construction excellence award for decorative paving, residential structures.

The project uses concrete to complement its natural surroundings - in this case, a patch of 200-year-old cedar trees - while adding a contemporary flair. By using ready-mixed concrete and retaining the natural color of concrete after the form stripping, the natural colors and subtleties of the material enhanced the landscaping and rock around the home, giving it a natural presence.

The project used KIM, an innovative product designed to increase the durability and weather resistance of the concrete without applying coatings to the natural finished surface.

A product called "In-Steel," a structural styrofoam panel, also was used to provide a combined insulation and steel reinforcement system.
