Coffman
Coffman Engineeers has stayed about the same size this year. “We are willing to grow, but only through the addition of highly qualified staff,” said principal Scott Mohr. The firm now numbers 180 — up from 177 last year, and gross fees also have remained steady at $14 million. “Business is good,” said Mohr. “The intense demand for office shell and core, and tenant improvement services has lessened somewhat, but those demands have been replaced by more work in the telecom and data communication sector.” Major projects in the last year include Loma Linda University Medical Center, Loma Linda, Calif., Microsoft Corporation in Sammamish and Issaquah, and the Anchorage International Airport Expansion. Coffman Engineers is a multidiscipline engineering firm with offices in Washington and Alaska. Its services include mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering; telecommunications and lighting design; and program/construction management. Coffman works on commercial, health care, high-tech, retail, hospitality, institutional and industrial projects. During the last year, the Seattle office has focused on serving retail, medical, telecommunications, and high-tech office and data center clients. Company goals include expanding multidiscipline service to the communication industry, while delivering cost-effective engineering solutions for traditional projects. “It appears the economy is slowing, and the ‘bottom line’ is becoming more important to clients,” said Mohr. “They are taking a closer look at costs, and at the delivery approaches used to complete projects. Opportunities will continue for firms that have a high level of engineering expertise, and can show that their involvement will contribute to their client's success.” |
