KPFF
KPFF Consulting Engineers’ Seattle office has grown from 168 last year to a current size of 177 employees. Gross fees have grown as well from $9 million to an estimated $11 million for this year. KPFF is a civil and structural engineering firm specializing in waterfront, bridge, transportation and seismic design. The firm continues to expand the number of projects in the growing local transportation market. Current projects include four commuter rail stations for Sound Transit and park-and-ride and transit facilities. Seismic design also continues to be an area of opportunity for the firm. In response to client requirements for enhanced performance of structures after a seismic event, KPFF is working for high-tech, research and health care clients such as Safeco, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and Immunex. KPFF is continuing its mix of work for urban and suburban projects. Current projects include Seattle City Hall, Microsoft St. Andrews, Quadrant’s Redmond Ridge and Blakely Ridge. Principal Craig Olson notes that engineers and contractors have managed to meet demanding schedules despite facing a shortage of skilled employees caused by the strong economy and current employee market. “This is a busy time,” says vice president and principal Ralph Iboshi. “Our current economy is providing tremendous opportunity for our firm and the entire industry. We’re making the most out of each opportunity.” |
