Callison

Callison is deepening service offerings in existing markets while at the same time broadening geographically. The firm is also expanding strategic alliances in the development and construction process, according to CEO William Karst.

The 24-year-old firm is now one of the largest multi-disciplinary design firms in the United States and the largest architecture office in Seattle, with a staff of 420 and 1999 billings of $62 million. The firm offers architecture, planning, interior design, image design and strategic consulting services. Markets include hospitality, retail, entertainment, residential, health care, mixed-use, corporate office and high-tech facilities.

"Business remains strong in Callison's core industries and increasingly in the international markets, particularly in Asia and the Middle East," said Karst. "Because we focus on strong relationships with industry leaders, much of our growth is in the diversity and volume of work with an expanding core of repeat clients."

Some of Callison's major clients include Nordstrom, Eddie Bauer, Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard, Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, Sisters of Providence, Seibu Department Stores of Japan, Taubman and Westcor Properties.

"With issues like the Growth Management Act and transportation planning greatly affecting urban and suburban neighborhood development, we believe the greatest challenge is to fully understand the impact of these policies on quality of life," said Karst. "By helping public agencies and private developers to resolve these issues, the design community has both opportunity and a critical role."
