Since it was founded in 1988, CDi of Lynnwood has grown to a staff size of 40, making it the largest mechanical-only consulting engineering firm in the Puget Sound area.
CDi stays tuned to legislation affecting the practice, according to marketing director Jan Flesher, and that helped CDi take appropriate steps to solidify market share before Initiative-200 passed and it lost its Minority Business Enterprise advantage.
Similarly, when Initiative-695 was first proposed, CDi began diversifying its projects from mostly publicly funded projects to privately funded ones, and the strategy has paid off. For the third year in a row, the firm surpassed its previous year's revenues.
The firm's target markets include healthcare, commercial, industrial, criminal justice, military, higher education and municipal work.
One of CDi's most complex and long-term projects is the mechanical infrastructure upgrade at Sea-Tac Internatio-nal Airport, working with HNTB. It is scheduled for completion in 2003. "This large, ongoing project will touch every mechanical system at the airport," said principal Paul Dias.
