Skilling

Skilling Ward Magnusson Barkshire has maintained its size of 122 people through the last year, with the construction value of engineered projects exceeding $1.5 billion. The highest concentration of work is in the Puget Sound area, but 76-year-old Skilling's historic mix of national and international projects remains at about 30 percent of total services provided.

The firm's civil engineering services, which center on supporting architects' site development work (both urban and suburban), have seen tremendous growth - an increase in both number and size of projects. Structural engineering work at Skilling continues to range from very straight forward work to exotic designs like the Experience Music Project. The project types include multi-family residential, high-tech labs, sports facilities, building preservation, major office buildings, courthouses, and many other specialized areas. In the next few months, Skilling will be announcing several new specialized service offerings, according to managing principal Jon Magnusson.

The overall market continues to look very strong, said Magnusson, with even some signs of renewed economic activity in Asia.
