New contracts have Adolfson Associates on the search for new staff. This year the firm’s revenues are projected at $4 million, up $500,000 from last year’s gross.

“We’re doing more,” said Lloyd Skinner, a principal in the environmental consulting firm’s Seattle office, “so we need more people.”

Adolfson has added staff in the last five years. But finding qualified senior staff to keep up with expanding markets has been tough. The firm is looking for a senior scientist in its Portland office and a senior project manager with biological sciences expertise.

This year’s biggest contract is with the U.S. Navy. Adolfson worked on NEPA, ESA and other projects for Navy facilities around Puget Sound, but recently had to recompete for the two-year, $2 million contract. “That’s a good one for us,” said Skinner. “It keeps both planners and scientists pretty busy.”

The 38-person firm works on transportation, wastewater and site development projects. Clients include a number of municipalities in need of wetlands, wildlife and shoreline planning. Skinner said he’s seen more attention in recent years to low-impact development, especially on infrastructure projects.
