WASLA CHAPTER AWARDS

The Washington Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (WASLA) celebrated its biennial Chapter Awards on last November with a gala gathering at the Center for Urban Horticulture.

The awards event also honored Bruce Dees of Bruce Dees & Associates and Dave McNeal of Jongejan Gerrard McNeal, new members of the American Society of Landscape Architects' College of Fellows.

Judges for the 24 awards submittals included Ben Frerichs, head of Economic Consulting Services in Seattle, Judith Reeve, landscape architect with Reeve MacDougall in Vancouver, BC, and Jay Rood, landscape architect with Susan Black Associates in Seattle, and president of the Friends of Olmsted.

The winners follow.

The People's Choice Award: Magnolia Bluff Residence; The Berger Partnership.

Honor Award for Design: On the Green, A to Z Trail; Weisman Design Group for I.M. Associates/Titan Development.

Honor Award for Planning: V.A. Tahoma National Cemetery; Jongegan Gerrard McNeal for the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Special Award: Tree Project of Tacoma; Tacoma Tree Project Committee for Metropolitan Parks District of Tacoma.

Special Award: Seattle Street Tree Master Plan; Worthy and Associates for the City of Seattle.

Special Award: Pipers Creek Watershed Yard and Garden Workshops; Harvard and Associates for Seattle Drainage and Wastewater Utility.

Special Award: Snohomish River Estuary Center; The Portico Group for Snohomish County Parks and Recreation Department.

Merit Award for Design: Marina Park Renovation; The Portico Group for the City of Kirkland Parks and Recreation Department.

Merit Award for Design: Madrona Beach Enhancement Project; John F. Barker, Landscape Architects for Madrona Community Council, City of Seattle.

Merit Award for Design: Pacific Science Center Court; Swift and Company for the City of Seattle.

Honorable Mention for Design: Dr. Blanche Lavizzio Children's Water Play Area; Oakrock Landscape Architecture for the Seattle Department of Parks and Recreation.

Honorable Mention for Design: The Inn at Langley; The Berger Partnership for Paul and Pam Schell.

Honorable Mention for Design: Harrison Hospital Roof Garden; EDAW, Inc. for Harrison Memorial Hospital
