Talley & Kolb

Principals: Bill Talley and Brooks Kolb
Size of firm: 2
Year founded: 1998
Annual revenues: $114, 000
Specialties: University landscape planning and residential garden design

"Business is booming," said Brooks Kolb, principal of Talley & Kolb. "There’s a lot of high-end residential." And many of those individual clients are in the software and tech industries, he said. Most of the firm’s projects are in the Seattle area, but the firm also has projects on the Eastside and in the San Juan Islands.

Kolb, who has a background designing commercial and government landscapes in the San Francisco area, likes the market. "The thing that’s so great about residential is the larger selection of plant palette, the construction detailing and the personal nature of it."

The firm has lately completed work on several significant gardens in North Capitol Hill, Broadmoor, Washington Park and Madison Park. The firm also has projects in Laurelhurst.

Partner Bill Talley is the campus landscape architect for the University of Washington, and is now engaged in a master planning process there that will guide the next 10 years of development.
