EDAW/Anderson & Ray Design Studio

EDAW’s Seattle office joined forces with the Anderson & Ray Design Studio early this year to form EDAW/Anderson & Ray Design Studio. The team of landscape designers led by Charles Anderson and Stephen Ray has joined EDAW’s local staff of planners and biological scientists in offices near Pike Place Market.

The 22-person office expects annual revenues of $2.6 million, and will specialize in park and recreation planning and design as well as ecological restoration.

“This year will be focused on integrating our new staff and services and broadening our client base and projects to provide more cross-disciplinary, or ‘fusion,’ opportunities,” said Anderson.

Ecological restoration and the use of native plants will be a continuing focus. Current community and neighborhood projects include Colman Park Enhancement Plan, the Roxhill Bog and the Pritchard Beach Ecological Restoration Plan.

The Pritchard Beach project was started by Anderson & Ray for the Friends of Pritchard Beach prior to joining EDAW. The ongoing project includes master plan development and community involvement. Special emphasis was placed on an access path through wetlands, which are incorporated into the design.

Landscape architectural services for the American Museum of Natural History in New York were completed by Anderson & Ray prior to joining EDAW. The Arthur Ross Terrace, a rooftop plaza, was designed and implemented within one of New York City’s major civic spaces. The plaza, adjacent to the museum’s new planetarium, includes fiber optic lighting, fountains and pedestrian elements to create the forms of astronomical phenomena.
