Business is strong in the landscape and urban design studio at Hewitt Architects, according to marketing coordinator Laura Cain. The size of the group remains stable at five. The studio provides landscape architectural services for projects within the multi-disciplinary design firm, as well as for other architecture and engineering firms as a subconsultant.
Key markets include landscape architecture and urban design for mixed-use residential projects, transportation projects, public park and trail projects — for both private and public clients. New market development has included resort properties and expanded services for retail centers.
Projects:
- Bergen Place Park in Ballard for the Seattle Department of Parks and Recreation is a redesign of an existing urban park in the center of Ballard’s downtown.
- King County Regional Communications and Emergency Coordination Center in Renton is a new operations center for 911 services and disaster management.
- Kent Station, a new retail and entertainment district in Kent’s downtown adjacent to the King County Justice Center and the Sounder train station, includes retail, restaurant, cinema, office, housing, a community college facility and grocery.
- Press Building on Capitol Hill was designed for Harbor Properties with GGLO Architects. This urban mixed-use housing project features ground level retail, a streetside courtyard and a roof deck.
- Cedarbrook, the Washington Mutual Corporate Leadership Center in SeaTac, was designed in collaboration with GGLO Architecture and GGLO’s landscape design studio. This three-building employee training and orientation facility on a hilly site features watercourses and outdoor terraces along with existing indigenous vegetation and wetlands.
