Initially conceived as a renovation, the design process led to the decision to replace the existing station with a new larger station on the same site.

The new 14,000-square-foot station provides apparatus bays with support and office functions in an attached single-story wing. A two-story wing serves as the “station house,” with living functions on the first floor and sleeping on the second.

The design responds to the neighborhood, which includes a number of historic brick buildings, as well as the environment by achieving LEED gold certification.

The use of brick brings a sense of individual scale and creates a strong connection to the history and character of the neighborhood as well as traditional firehouse iconography. Two brick colors identify primary or support functions and the horizontal cast stone banding unite the various building volumes.
