Tournament Summary
"Nothing but Net" is a localized contest where Northwesterners predict the outcome of this year's men's college basketball tournament. This year we decided to broaden the entry requirements and thus any residents of WA, OR, AK, or ID of 18 years of age or older are invited to play. Tell your friends!

Fill out the form to the right to login and start your bracket. Good luck!

Winners will win the respect and envy of their peers, and great prizes that highlight what makes Seattle a great city: fine dining and hotels with spectacular views.

"Nothing But Net" offers these great features:

  • Regularly updated contestant rankings (check this page) at the online site as soon as results are known so you can easily follow your progress from work or home (be sure and bookmark this page)

  • Leader Board prominently displayed in the paper so your peers and coworkers can justly admire your college basketball know-how. Could a raise be in order? Depends on who you take to dinner.

  • Small contestant pool makes winning much easier.

RULES
  1. No purchase is necessary to win. You must be a legal resident of the state of Washington, Oregon, Idaho or Alaska to participate.

  2. All entrants must be 18. Only one entry per person. Multiple entries or aliased entries will result in disqualification of any and all entries by participant as well as bad karma.

  3. The DJC online contest begins shortly after the brackets are announced on March 10, 2002. Visit the website at www.djc.com and click on the 'Nothing but Net' link then click on enter. You will be asked for name, company name, phone # and email address. Players will then be taken to a tournament bracket to select winners for each game. As a tie-breaker provision, you will also be asked to predict the number of total points scored in the championship game. Brackets must be completely filled out for the contestant to be eligible. Entries must be received 15 minutes before tip-off of first game, Thursday March 14th.

Hard copy entry forms will also be available at the DJC office starting Monday March 11th. Mailed entries must be received at the DJC office by 5:00 PM PST, Wednesday, March 13, 2002.

  4. Scoring. Contestants will get points for each game in which they correctly guess the winner. The points awarded for each game increment after each round as follows:

    • Round 1: one point per win
    • Round 2: two points per win
    • Round 3: three points per win
    • Round 4: four points per win
    • Round 5: five points per win
    • Championship: six points

The highest total number of points wins first prize, next highest wins second, etc. In the event of tying point totals, total points in the final game will be used to determine prize winners. If there is still a tie, DJC editors will draw out of someone's hat.

  5. Prizes. There are seven prizes, none of which are redeemable for cash, transferable, substitutable, etc. Prizes must be used by the end of the year 2003. Any taxes on the prizes are the responsibility of the prize winners.

  6. Winners will be announced at the conclusion of the contest and will be notified shortly thereafter.

  7. All entrants agree to allow their name to be used promotionally if they win, and for their name to appear on the leader board and online during the contest.

  8. 'Nothing but Net' is being put on by the Seattle Daily Journal of Commerce, 83 Columbia St, Seattle WA 98104. Use this address to request a list of winners.
