SEATTLE — The Seattle Art Museum's fall exhibition, “Yves Saint Laurent: The Perfection of Style,” opens Oct. 11.
SAM said the retrospective will offer an intimate and comprehensive look at one of history's most influential fashion designers, with examples of both haute couture and ready-to-wear garments that reveal his artistic genius, influences and creative process.
The exhibition includes “Paper Doll Couture House,” with paper dolls and wardrobes he created as a teenager; work from his years at the House of Dior; and the designs from his own couture house that redefined women's fashion with peacoats, pantsuits and safari jackets.
The show will also look at how Saint Laurent was inspired by artists such as Piet Mondrian as well as Pop art and African art.
Saint Laurent was born in 1936 in Algeria, and named Dior's artistic director at age 21. He died in Paris in 2008. Two museums dedicated to his work will open next year in Paris and Marrakech.
