Q. It's been called the ultimate in “body makeovers,” or a human head transplant. Has this one ever been done before?
A. It's surgeon Sergio Canavero's plan to transplant a living head onto a donated body, which will doubtless spark reams of controversy over the ethics and pragmatics of the “operation,” reports New Scientist magazine. Transferring a head to a new body is being touted as a solution to inoperable cancers, or to diseases like the one afflicting Stephen Hawking. Yet many specialists asked about the matter flatly refused to participate, calling it outlandish or unethical, says the magazine's Helen Thomson.
