New hires at The Walsh Group's Seattle office are Liz Pierce as project engineer in the Estimating Department, Doug Prout as project engineer and Nicholas Bailey as assistant superintendent. Pierce was an intern last summer at Walsh's Chicago office. Prout worked as an intern the past three summers with Walsh on the Bellevue Marriott project. He just graduated from Purdue University with a bachelor's degree in construction engineering and management. Bailey was an intern for two summers with Walsh. He is working at a Naval Base Kitsap project.

Rick Workman, senior project manager at Lease Crutcher Lewis, is the new board president of the AGC Education Foundation. Former president Elaine Ervin, partner at Moss Adams LLP, is now past president/treasurer on the executive committee. The foundation also added four new board members: Gene Colin of Ferguson Construction, Paul Garlock of Lydig Construction, Gregory Mettler of CalPortland and Thomas Mosby of Puget Sound Skills Center.

Mortenson Construction is keeping six interns busy this summer in the Seattle area. Scott Staples, a senior at BYU-Idaho working on a construction management degree, is a field engineer intern on the University of Washington Medical Center Phase II project. Claudia East, working on a civil engineering degree from Arizona State University, is an integration construction coordinator. Tom Bristow, on his second internship and studying civil engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, is a field engineer intern on the Chambers Creek Regional WWTP project. Julie Brubacher, who is studying civil and environmental engineering at Washington State University, is a field engineer intern. Shane Bingham, who is studying construction management at BYU, is a field engineer intern on the Western Washington University Carver Academic renovation project. Kyle Nield, on his second internship and working on a construction management degree at BYU, is a field engineer intern on the AMLI Arc residential tower project.

CITC of Washington

Eighty-two students recently graduated from the Construction Industry Training Council of Washington in the following state-approved trades: carpentry, commercial electrical, residential electrical, heavy equipment operator, HVAC, painting, sheet metal and plumbing. CITC President and CEO Halene Sigmund says the program has doubled its number of students in the last two years.

The Northwest Division of Howard S. Wright, a Balfour Beatty company, hired Bryan Kelley as vice president of legal and promoted Brian Sorensen to safety, health and environmental director. Kelley provides legal counsel, supports business operations, and manages transactions, litigation, compliance and general risk. He represented contractors and subcontractors for the last 14 years at the construction law firm Oles Morrison Rinker & Baker. He holds a juris doctorate from Pepperdine University and a bachelor's degree from Vanderbilt University. Sorensen directs the company's safety and loss prevention operations, including the Zero Harm safety program. He joined the company's Seattle office in 2014 and has more than a decade of experience in construction safety management. He holds a bachelor's degree in safety and health management from Central Washington University, and is a certified Construction Health and Safety Technician.

Dexter + Chaney President Norbert Orth added CEO to his role, and company co-founder John Chaney has become executive chairman. The changes are part of strategic growth initiatives by the Seattle-based company. Dexter + Chaney develops cloud-based construction management software, including Spectrum Construction Software.

Gig Harbor-based Rush Commercial, one of the six core businesses at The Rush Companies, added 12 employees to its team in an effort to move into new markets. The new faces are: project manager Stephen Baldwin; senior superintendent Larry Ward; superintendent Nikolas Peterson; assistant superintendents Mark Kloefkorn, Charles Crest and Casey Blakeman; senior project engineer Danette Kirby; project engineers David Casper and Sarah DeKoning; business development coordinator Alena Noson; project assistant Rachael Birge; and labor foreman Aaron Davis.

The Associated General Contractors of Washington Education Foundation announced its 2016-17 scholarship recipients. University of Washington students are Logan Chun, Griffin Collins, Brydon Eakins, Jarrett Ermels, Michael Feaster, Baxter Hagan, Reem Ibrahim, James Nosack, Emma Parks, Wesley Purdum, Caleb Vasquez, Andrew Vose and Craig Wilson. Washington State University students are Sam Flor, Westley Hunter, Tucker Jones, Marie Landsverk, Connor Schneider, Samuel Rykken, Charlotte Schmitz and Nicholaus Smith. Other winners are Jessica Harris and Tanner Romo of Central Washington University; Lacy Draper of Seattle Central Community College; Ashley McGrady of Renton Technical College; and Florencio Lopez of Grays Harbor College.
