Bellevue-based Powell Construction Co. rebranded itself as Powell RYKA. It says it's “taking over 30 years of industry experience and blending it with fresh talent and technology to create a fusion of old and new practices.” The rebranding includes a new logo and website. The company builds projects ranging from small tenant improvements to large developments comprised of multiple buildings and owners. It is led by Mike and Tanya Brehm.
Vancouver, B.C.-based equipment auctioneer Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers bought Rouse Services for $275 million to expand its data and analytics offerings. Los Angeles-based Rouse provides data for rental analytics, equipment sales support and fleet appraisals. Ritchie says the merger will allow its customers to better understand used equipment trends and how to use them to optimize fleet management decisions. The deal is subject to regulatory approval and includes $250 million in cash and $25 million in Ritchie common stock.
Jennings Electric of Bonney Lake joined the Associated Builders and Contractors of Western Washington. The company is led by Scott Jennings, who has over 20 years of commercial electrical experience. State records show Jennings formed the company in February.

In Kirkland, Compass Construction hired Greg Hammond and Chris Waters as project engineers; promoted Emiliano Reyes-Alvarez to assistant superintendent; and welcomed back David Ottolino as an assistant superintendent. Hammond comes from the oil and gas industry, and has a background in geology. Waters is experienced in design-build architecture. Reyes-Alvarez has been with Compass since 2012 and was promoted from punch carpenter. Ottolino started with Compass in 2015 as a project engineer.
In Seattle, Sound Transit appointed David H. Wright II as its first chief safety officer, leading an intensified safety focus following the separation of the agency's safety and quality assurance departments. Wright is focusing on current transit operations and the largest transit construction program in the nation. He has over 20 years of experience in transit and rail safety, including stints with the Chicago Transit Authority, rail construction and services provider Holland, and Gogo Business Aviation.
At the start of 2021, Martin O'Leary will take over as president of JTM Construction from John Hayduk, who will transition to senior advisor and remain as board chair. Hayduk co-founded Seattle-based JTM in 2005 with O'Leary and COO Tom Titus. O'Leary has over 30 years of local construction experience, with nearly 16 years at JTM and another 16 years at Skanska. He currently is executive vice president. JTM has built notable local buildings such as the LeMay car museum, F5 tower and the Olive 8 condo/hotel tower. It provides preconstruction, self-perform work and construction management.
Bellingham-based Dawson Construction hired Gursahib Patara as project engineer and Jeff Morgan as assistant superintendent; and promoted Ryan Binning to director of business operations and Alex Yuska to assistant project manager. Patara recently graduated from the University of Washington with a bachelor's degree in construction management and worked a year ago as a summer intern for Dawson. Morgan has experience building assisted-living and memory care facilities, and was an engineer officer for the North Carolina National Guard. Binning worked as an estimator manager for a year at Dawson before stepping into his new role, which is a new position at the company. Yuska was a project engineer. He grew up in a construction family and has worked his way into management positions after beginning at Dawson as a summer intern while he earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Gonzaga University. Established in 1967, Dawson Construction is a general contractor serving Alaska and Washington.
