COURTLAND PLACE is hard to see from Rainier Avenue, but it’s easy to find. Just drive behind the big Safeway store at Rainier Square shopping center and look left and right.
There’s a steeply sloping patch of land covered with blackberry bushes directly ahead, and to the left a dead-end street lined with modest, well-kept houses, most built after World War II. A farm house from the turn of the century still stands on the slope behind the shopping center.
