It's not easy to pull back and live on a carbon budget.
In the last 30 years, the number of miles Americans drive has grown three times faster than the U.S. population — almost twice as fast as vehicle registrations — and average commute times have risen steadily. If we are going to cut back, and ease the threat of global warming, changing the way we build in the next 30 years is critical.
