OKA to design 12-story building for site in SLU

  • Sellen Construction President Scott Redman said it will be office space or a hotel, with housing on the top floors.
  • A 12-story, mixed-use building has been proposed for a site in the South Lake Union area that has been owned for a long time by the family that founded Sellen Construction Co.

Sellen President Scott Redman said three parcels at 234 Ninth Ave. N., between Thomas and John streets, have been in his family since 1944. They're currently owned by an entity registered to Redman called R2H2 LLC.

The site includes the former Jones Soda Co. headquarters on the southeast corner of Ninth Avenue North and Thomas Street, and two other single-story office buildings.

Preliminary plans call for 130,000 square feet of commercial space, 14,000 square feet of housing and underground parking for 130 vehicles.

Olson Kundig Architects will design the building. Point32 is managing the entitlements.

Redman said the residential units will be on the upper floors, and the commercial portion may be offices or a hotel.

“We're a long way from making a determination (about the commercial use),” he said.

A Seattle design review board is scheduled to hold its first design guidance meeting on the project at 8 p.m. June 26 in the Queen Anne Community Center.
