This year has been an important one for Seattle's Central Waterfront, with key decisions made about the features and character of the urban shore after the Alaskan Way Viaduct is torn down.
The waterfront will no longer be primarily a destination for tourists and school groups, separated from the city by a roaring aerial freeway.
