Washington State University's board of regents is meeting Thursday and Friday to consider several construction projects at its Pullman and Tri-City campuses, including a $32 million renovation of the Old Bookie building in Pullman.
Other projects under consideration are a $5.73 million student union building on the Tri-City campus and $1.6 million for soccer field improvements in Pullman.
Old Bookie would become a student services center. Half would be space for social activities and the rest would be for recreation/fitness activities. Social areas would contain group study rooms, lounge seating, napping pods, and tables for pool and ping-pong. The fitness side would have weight and cardio equipment, rooms for fitness classes, saunas and locker rooms, and a quick-serve restaurant.
The outdoor courtyard would have seating and a bouldering wall.
If approved, the renovated Old Bookie could open as soon as spring 2017.
Old Bookie was home to the student bookstore until it closed in 2008. It is on Thatuna Street, across from Wilmer-Davis Hall and north of Kimbrough Music Building.
