MG2, formerly MulvannyG2 Architecture, has opened its new headquarters in 1101 Second, a Seattle office building designed by Paul Thiry in 1967.

The firm moved from Bellevue.

CEO Mitch Smith said in a press release that MG2 will continue to work with Eastside clients, but found a unique opportunity in Seattle that would bring “the next evolution of our brand to life.”

The headquarters will house about 200 people. MG2 has about 300 employees worldwide.

MG2 has a 15-year lease on the Seattle space.

The firm renovated about 64,000 square feet on three floors of the four-story building. The design takes advantage of the midcentury aesthetic and expansive floor plates to create an open, flexible environment that allows for different work styles and collaboration.

There are individual workstations, open and enclosed meeting areas, and “quiet rooms” for individual work or small meetings.

MJ Munsell, MG2 principal and retail market design leader, said, “In designing the office space, we incorporated the retail mindset and created an ecosystem of interconnected places that give people choice and control over where and how they work.”

The firm is targeting LEED gold certification. Reclaimed, renewable and locally sourced materials and energy-efficient fixtures were used.

MG2’s services include architecture, planning, interior design, brand strategy and consulting. It works on retail, mixed-use, hospitality and commercial projects worldwide, with clients that include Costco, Westfield and Uniqlo. Other offices are in Irvine, California, Washington, D.C., and Shanghai.

Among its Seattle projects are 1101 Westlake, a six-story, 150,000-square-foot office building for Holland Partner Group; and a 50-story hotel/residential tower for Stanford Hotels at 1903 Fifth Ave.

The 1101 Second building is owned by Rockwood Capital and managed by Urban Renaissance Group. Howard S. Wright, a Balfour Beatty company, was the contractor for MG2’s workspace and Colliers International provided real estate services.
