The Northwest Washington chapter of the American Institute of Architects will offer a tour at 4 p.m. June 4 of the Stillaguamish Natural Resource Center at 22712 Sixth Ave. N.E. in Arlington.

Brooks Middleton is the architect and Quantum Construction is the general contractor, and they will be on hand to answer questions. Quantum and Cloud 9 Photography are co-sponsors of tour.

The center won the 2015 Sustainability Award and an Honor Award from NWAIA.

The $6.9 million project is a modern interpretation of Northwest Native American building design. It is on a bluff above Stillaguamish River, and replaces dilapidated structures that housed the tribe's growing natural resources department.

The center has a drive-thru staging area, large mudroom, wash down area, locker rooms, water quality lab, conference spaces and offices for 25 staff.

Green elements include rain gardens, pervious concrete walkways, geothermally heated radiant floors, heat recovery ventilation, low-flow plumbing fixtures, daylighting in office spaces and native-only landscaping without irrigation.

The program is free for members and $5 for non-members. R.S.V.P. to director@nwaia.org.
