16 projects win AIA Seattle awards

Sixteen projects were winners in the 2016 Honor Awards competition by the American Institute of Architects Seattle chapter. They were announced at an event held in Benaroya Hall on Monday.

A total of 140 projects were submitted, including buildings, installations and concepts. They could be located anywhere, but must have been designed by Washington architects in the last five years.

Here are the award categories: honor, energy in design, merit, honorable mention and conceptual.

The jurors were Mimi Hoang of nARCHITECTS and Anna Dyson of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, both in New York. Monday's event was moderated by Gundula Proksch, an architect and associate professor of architecture at the University of Washington.

This is the 66th year of the awards.
