Housing Hope's Twin Lakes Landing, a modular apartment project in Marysville for low-income and formerly homeless people, was honored in the 2018 Best in American Living Awards by the National Association of Home Builders.
The 50-unit project opened a year ago at 2820 164th St. N.E.
It won in the affordable housing category.
Housing Hope's project is on a 2.5-acre site overlooking Gissberg Twin Lakes, a county park with walking trails. It consists of six two-story buildings with 16 one-bedroom and 34 two-bedroom units.
The architects — Designs Northwest and HKP Architects — said modular construction was used to save time and money.
The architects said they designed the complex with spaces where residents can interact. It has educational and childcare programs run by Housing Hope, a community garden, children's play area, interior courtyards and lawns. Views of the water were emphasized in the communal areas and southern facing units.
The project was built to Evergreen Sustainable Design Standards, and uses sustainable materials.
The total cost was almost $15 million.
Synergy Construction was the general contractor and Guerdon Modular Buildings built the modules.
The team also included GeoTest, hydrology and stormwater; Harmsen & Associates, civil engineering; MIG/SvR Design Co., landscape architecture; Lund Opsahl, structural engineering; Interface Engineering, electrical engineering; Harris Group (formerly The Rice Group), mechanical engineering; Rider Levett Bucknall, cost estimator; and Adams Consulting and Estimating, hardware.
Winners of the BALA platinum, gold, silver and Home of the Year awards will be announced at the NAHB International Builders' Show Feb. 20 in Las Vegas.
