REDMOND — The Redmond City Council approved naming the full-sized baseball field at Hartman Park “Les Dow Field” in honor of Dow who passed away in August 2018.
A ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the park at 17300 N.E. 104th St. as part of the Mickey Mantle State Tournament.
Baseball was a driving force in the lives of Dow and his wife, Erin, the city said in a press release. He spent 46 years as a coach, sponsor and administrator in the Redmond baseball community. He was instrumental in many improvement projects at Hartman Park and had substantial impact through his volunteer work.
He coached 1,379 boys and one girl over that time. Of them, 250 participated at the college level, many played in the minor leagues, and 12 advanced into Major League Baseball. Many of the players continue to give back by becoming coaches, including Dow's children Dan, Chrissy and Mark.
Mayor John Marchione said, “The City of Redmond is proud to honor Les and the Dow family by recognizing their contributions and achievements in the community with the naming of Les Dow Field.”
