Letter to the Editor: Third runway wrapup

I want to compliment reporter Marc Stiles for his reporting on the very good news about the end of the long legal battle between Port of Seattle and communities around the airport over Sea-Tac Airport's third runway (DJC Aug. 20). The end of litigation means the Port and all the cities and the Highline School District can work together as partners on the many issues affecting South King County citizens.

I have one important correction to make, however. Stu Creighton, a longtime opponent of the project, is quoted as saying that federal officials "brokered the deal'' in 2002 that resulted in the $200 million agreement to provide funds for the Highline School District's noise-insulation program for schools close to the airport. This is quite wrong.
