Fed has $24M for local towns

WASHINGTON — U.S. Secretary of the Interior David L. Bernhardt announced that 37 local governments in Washington state are receiving a total of $24.1 million under the 2020 Payments in Lieu of Taxes program.

The money goes to counties to help small towns pay for critical needs like emergency response, public safety, school construction, housing, social services and infrastructure. In Washington, $3.24 million is going to Chelan County, $2.71 million to Okanogan County and $2.02 million to Whatcom County. King County is getting $909,323.
