$5.6M awarded for community projects

OLYMPIA — The state Department of Commerce has awarded $5.6 million in Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) to five cities and counties across the state.

The biggest award, $2 million, went to Jefferson County to support the proposed construction of a new early learning and family support center in Port Townsend. The Olympic Peninsula YMCA is planning to build the project adjacent to Port Townsend High School. The YMCA signed a lease for the land, which is owned by the Port Townsend School District, in March.
