Construction is slated to begin in July on the $71 million academic center at Washington State University's campus in Everett.
The WSU Board of Regents approved schematic designs last week.
The 95,000-square-foot structure will be built at North Broadway and Tower Street, east of the Everett Community College campus. The site is currently a parking lot.
SRG Partnership is the architect. Hoffman Construction is the general contractor. Other design team members include McKinstry, KPFF Consulting Engineers, Site Workshop, and dark|light design.
OAC Services is the project manager.
The building will house the expanding University Center of North Puget Sound, a consortium of four-year colleges that includes WSU. It will have classrooms, engineering labs, faculty offices, a cafe and student services spaces.
The design is intended to provide a sense of identity for WSU in Everett and be responsive to its surroundings.
WSU began managing the University Center North Puget Sound program last year. The program is currently housed on the Everett Community College campus.
Work is expected to finish in July 2017.
The building will serve students working toward bachelor's degrees in science, technology, engineering and math.
