WSDOT: Bertha damage is more extensive

By JOURNAL STAFF

Seattle Tunnel Partners has finished disassembling the SR 99 tunneling machine named Bertha and found that damage is more extensive than expected and that minor damage occurred as it was being taken apart, according to a press release today from the Washington State Department of Transportation.

STP said it won’t know when mining can resume until it determines the extent of repairs.
