Ikea has hired Deacon Corp. to build its 406,000-square-foot store in Renton.

Deacon will serve as construction manager and general contractor for both the store and site work.

Other firms on the team are Barghausen Consulting Engineers, civil engineer; Transportation Engineering Northwest, traffic consultants; and Atlanta-based GreenbergFarrow as the project architect.

The new store will be built on part of Ikea's current parking area, and the old store will be demolished to create space for parking.

The new store is set to open in spring of 2017.

The 398,000-square-foot current store is on 29 acres in Renton, near state Route 167. It was built in 1979 as a warehouse for aerospace electronics. Ikea converted it to retail in 1994.

The new store will have two levels, and an updated layout similar to other new Ikea stores. Almost 1,600 parking spaces are planned.

It will have 50 model rooms, three model home interiors, a children's play area and a larger restaurant.

Deacon specializes in retail, multifamily, mixed-use, hotels, restaurants and entertainment centers, as well as health care and office buildings.
