Tucci & Sons will repave part of SR 509 in Burien.

Work will start next Monday on two paving projects in south King County for the Washington State Department of Transportation, followed by a third in mid-month.

The 8 miles of road involved in the three projects are deteriorating, and have cracks and potholes.

“These highways were last paved almost two decades ago,” said WSDOT Engineering Manager Cathy Arnold in a news release. “Repaving them will extend their lifespans, prevent additional damage and reduce annual maintenance costs.”

The three projects are:

• $3.9 million to repave 5.5 miles of state Route 164 between Hemlock Street Southeast in Auburn and Southeast 408th Street in Enumclaw. Icon Materials starts July 6.

• $3.1 million to repave 2 miles of westbound state Route 518 between the I-5/I-405 interchange and 24th Avenue South near Sea-Tac Airport. Tucci & Sons starts July 6.

• $1.7 million to repave a half-mile of state Route 509/First Avenue South between South 174th Street in Burien and South Normandy Road in Normandy Park. Tucci & Sons starts mid-month.

All three projects are expected to be finished this fall. They are part of eight pavement-preservation projects on area highways this summer. The other five are:

• $761,000 to resurface 1 mile of northbound state Route 167 from South 277th Street to the Green River Bridge in Kent. Icon Materials started in June and will finish later this month.

• $3.34 million to repave 4.5 miles of southbound Interstate 5 between Joe Leary Slough and Mount Vernon. Cemex Construction Materials Pacific will start July 9 and finish in October.

• $3.65 million to repave 6 miles state Route 20 between Frostad Road on Whidbey Island and Sharpes Corner on Fidalgo Island. Lakeside Industries started in June and will finish in September.

• $2.1 million to repave 1.5 miles of state Route 181 between South 180th Street and Southcenter Boulevard. Tucci & Sons finished the work.

• $2.01 million to repave 4 miles of southbound state Route 509 between South 112th and 160th streets in Burien. Tucci & Sons finished the work.

WSDOT maintenance teams have also identified 127 locations on 33 highways that need spot pavement repairs and preservation work. WSDOT will use $10.7 million in the 2015-17 biennium to repave areas, seal cracks and patch deteriorating pavement.
