SEATTLE — Seattle Department of Transportation said it has completed the design for the Westlake Cycle Track and expects to start construction early next year.
Groundbreaking is expected by January and work should be done next summer.
The goal is to reduce conflicts between cars, bikes and pedestrians, and improve mobility on Westlake Avenue North.
SDOT said it reached an agreement with a business called Nautical Landing that will minimize impacts to businesses by using the pedestrian bridge in the 2400 block of Westlake to create a separated bike lane.
The cycle track will be on the east side of the parking area adjacent to the sidewalk to minimize the number of vehicles crossing the cycle track and preserve 90 percent of the parking spaces.
