Ferry footbridge runs down Western

Kiewit Infrastructure West this week began installation of steel sections of a pedestrian bridge over Western Avenue in Seattle's West Edge neighborhood.

The temporary bridge for ferry commuters connects to the existing Marion Street footbridge. Crews yesterday had sections in place down to Columbia Street and will install more along Columbia to Alaskan Way. Next week, Kiewit will close Alaskan Way so it can install the final span to Colman Dock.

Metal bridge components were made in Minnesota by Contech Engineering Solutions.

The existing footbridge goes under a small section of the Alaskan Way Viaduct that Kiewit will demolish later this summer after the temporary footbridge opens.

A new permanent footbridge is expected to open in early 2023 and will connect Colman Dock with the remaining section of the Marion footbridge east of Alaskan Way.
