AGC: jobs up; more workers still needed

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In an analysis of new government data on employment released Friday, the Associated General Contractors of America said that hefty pay raises for hourly workers have allowed the construction industry to increase employment more steeply than other sectors.

Employment data showed that construction firms added 24,000 employees in February. Construction employment totaled a record 7,918,000 in February, an increase of 249,000 or 3.2 percent from a year earlier. That growth rate exceeded the 2.9 percent rise in total nonfarm employment.
