Sound Transit finds a preferred path for Ballard Link Extension

Sound Transit's board last week identified a preferred alternative for the light rail route and station locations for the Ballard Link Extension. The proposed 7.1-mile extension includes nine new stations from downtown Seattle to Ballard, including a new rail-only tunnel through downtown Seattle.

A news release from Sound Transit says the board weighed community priorities, regional needs, input from agencies and the city of Seattle, analysis of alternatives in the draft environmental impact statement, and results of additional studies. A final decision is not expected until after preliminary engineering and the final EIS is published, which is projected to be sometime next year.
