Recycling firm fined again for toxic spill

TACOMA (AP) — For the second time in five months, the state has fined a Tacoma recycling company for spilling toxic waste into Commencement Bay.

The News Tribune newspaper reports (http://is.gd/yhw1kE ) the state Department of Ecology has investigated 19 incidents at Emerald Services since February 2014.

The most recent penalty came in April for $68,000. State officials said the spillage of flammable, toxic waste was the result of employee error.

Emerald Services is appealing the fine.
