FAIRBANKS, Alaska — When the first batch of heating fuel was drained, it wasn't the preferred clear and colorless liquid. It was rust brown. A small amount of sediment had clogged a reusable sock-style filter and a teaspoon or two of water was removed.
Though not preferred, all the contaminants were expected.
